All hands to the pump! How National Grid fought the floods
When floods hit National Grid electricity substations in South Yorkshire it was all hands to the pump.
National Grid worked 24 hours a day to make the areas safe and get power back to homes and businesses. Redhouse Lane was there too. With just two hours notice the Redhouse Lane video team was ready to start filming the recovery work, for a short film to go on the National Grid website.
The crew filmed at substations near Sheffield and Doncaster. "Thanks to the Army we were able to get out and film the work that National Grid engineers were doing," says producer Christine Chapman.
"In an emergency like this, pictures are the best and most immediate way of showing just what employees are up against and the hours they have to put in to get the lights back on."
According to the MET Office, June was officially the wettest month in the UK since records began in 1914.
